------------------------------- This is a UNIQUE lot of memorabilia, and the photos are ORIGINALS, and are absolutely GENUINE. I have researched, and researched, and researched. I have talked to old life long "Gone With The Wind" fans and shown them this assortment.
I have even been given new information by old collectors! 40 (Forty) 5" x 7" original black and white and or sepia photographs that I know there's probably a special term for; but for lack of it I can only say "camera stills". They are numbered on the back in sequence, 1 through 40.
There are notations made on one or both sides of some of the pictures. Actually, I will just paste their message below this line: Hi goldb, my name is tina and im a 50 year gwtw collector from atlanta. I was going to help you out a bit on these photos.
Those are likely continuity photos that seem to be from the bits of rolling dialogue at parts in the film. The gettysburg is an outtake not used that would have been in the film after the paris hat scene where rhett mentions gettysburg. Those are extremely rare, because the film footage to it had never been seen. The photos with black at the top are from raw footage before the paintings were inserted in the background to make a complete scene. Overall, i think these are extremely rare as they are photos taken from film frames, and that film has never surfaced.
It may have originated from hal kerns cutting room. The reason i say this is that the dialogue in the beginning photos was slightly changed from what you have.
----------------------------------- My friend that I obtained them from, obtained them himself from a descendant of the original collector who worked for the studios and routinely was allowed to bring things home that otherwise would have been discarded. Working Title: When a film is early in production, the titles are not always set in stone when they try to put a film together. Temporary titles from early attempts of shooting a film, are working titles.
On the back of the photo of the mansion is wrote "MT-12-take-3". SELZNICK INTERNATIONAL STUDIO is emblazoned on the mansion itself as you can see in my listing photo of the photo. I figured that might be significant enough to single out. I wish I knew what all these markings referred to, as it is, it only bears witness to have been used by production crews. There are NO other sets of these photos ANYWHERE that I can possibly look for them.
This may well be the only set, or only surviving set of these photos and as for Working Title "Gettysburg", you cannot find anything with the title "Gettysburg" and have it refer to "Gone With The Wind". Everyone who knows something, has told me the actual film these stills were taken from has not surfaced and have stated the film may not even exist anymore.
There are a lot of iconic photos in this set from Beginning to End; there's no shots of Gable because he wasn't cast yet. So this is very much earlier in the 30s to be sure. There are a couple photos where there is the pre-production one with all the stuff they didn't want in the final cut with the edited one with the desired artwork added in, so you can literally see the difference between what was really there vs what the movie showed. These are rather cool, to see the kind of work they put into the film. There are two missing photos in the numbered 1 through 40 sequence, however, there are still 40 photos.I just wanted to be clear on this point in case someone buys the photos and looks at the numbers and freaks out that there is a gap or two. I don't know what happened to the contents of the movie vault for GWTW. Does it contain any of the working title stuff?
But I do know this is the only set of anything from Working Title Gettysburg that I can find. I have done a LOT of talking with collectors; I have made a lot of inquiries here and there. I very, very deeply feel, as others I've talked to feel as well, that this is a priceless treasure; the value easily should be in the 6 or 7 digits, but I don't have that kind of access to the market; but it is unique, and most people probably had no clue this exists. So where does that leave me; I have to take what profit I can, and leave the rest of the opportunity for everyone else to do the hard work of finding the market.
